Police investigate heating oil theft

Police in Wales are currently investigating a heating oil theft in Powys, it has been reported.

According to the Shropshire Star, hundreds of litres of oil were taken during the incident, which happened in the Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant area.

Constable Bob Bearman of Dyfed-Powys Police described this as "large amount" of household fuel, adding that the theft took place at a rural property.

He commented: "The incident happened sometime over the last month and a half."

The officer added that this is not an isolated event, as a number of similar thefts have taken place across the region during the last few months.

This comes shortly after the Environment Agency warned businesses and homeowners that the number of oil thefts is likely to go up this autumn.

Spokesperson Richard Bowen said storage tank security is paramount and that every preventative measure to protect their fuel needs to be taken.
