Experts have suggested that energy efficiency is the only way that fuel poverty can be combated this winter.
The Energy Saving Trust with Anna Ryder Richardson and Anglican Home Improvements have joined forces and compiled an energy efficiency guide to help homeowners in a bid to help cut heating bills.
Research by the trust has revealed that people who carry out regular oil boiler servicing, install double glazing windows, and wall and loft insulation could reduce energy bills by over £270 a year and save £1.9 billion in fuel costs.
Anglican's head of marketing Melanie Russell said: "Making energy-efficient changes ahead of the winter months could lead to savings of thousands of pounds on future fuel bills."
The latest global slump in oil demand has reached a 17-month low as the cost of US December deliveries has dropped to $62 (£40) a barrel.
London Brent crude has dropped by $2.35 to $59.70 a barrel.
