Home heating oil thieves strike again
 14 Apr 2008
One resident of Strabane, Northern Ireland, has spoken of her misery after being targeted twice by home heating oil thieves.
Sonia McKay of Carricklynn Avenue, on the outskirts of the town, is now using a padlock to secure her oil tank following two thefts, the Derry Journal reports.
"I bought oil about six weeks before I moved into my house and I had it on quite a lot in order to heat the house before my move, but I was still shocked to find that it was gone after just one month," she told the paper.
And a further £200 of home heating oil disappeared within a week, she said.
The sound of an electric pump or generator, or a suspicious oil tanker or lorry parked nearby could be the sign of criminal activity, the local police have warned.
Oil prices surged last week to reach a new record high of $112.21 (£56.47) a barrel.
