Spate of home heating oil thefts reported
 08 Apr 2008
The number of thefts relating to home heating oil in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, has increased.
According to local police, homeowners must continue to be vigilant against the crime, reports the Lisburn Times.
Many homeowners do not even realise they have been a victim of home heating oil theft until it is too late, the police warned.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Usually it is only when people run out of oil that the theft becomes apparent and that is why we are now asking residents to check the level of the oil more frequently."
The sound of an electric generator should be a warning sign, the police told the news source, while home heating oil users should not presume the arrival of workmen nearby is completely kosher.
Oil prices have risen over the past two days, which could mean the number of home heating oil crimes continue to rise.
