 02 Apr 2008
A warning has been given to home heating oil users advising them to ensure they remain vigilant against the theft of their fuel.
The number of crimes relating to home heating oil has increased of late, Ballycastle councillor Seamus Blaney told the Ballymoney and Moyle Times.
Soaring oil prices has led some "desperate people" to commit crime and steal the commodity residential oil tanks, he said.
He remarked: "I believe the situation could get worse if the prices keep going up so people should be aware of the threat to their oil."
According to the news source, the Times recently discovered that 500 litres of heating oil can cost as much as £275 in the current economic climate.
At the start of the year, the Ballymoney and Moyle Times claims prices for the same amount of oil stood at around £220 in the Ballymoney area.
Home heating oil users can pay as much as £430 more for fuel a year than those connected to the gas mains network, price comparison site BoilerJuice stated recently.
