Darling 'ignores home heating oil users' plight'
 17 Mar 2008
Last week's Budget announcement by Chancellor Alistair Darling has not addressed the continuing plight of home heating oil users, it has been suggested.
Price comparison website BoilerJuice.com has stated that while gas users are receiving help from the government, home heating oil users are not.
According to the company, the price of home heating oil has risen considerably over the last 12 months.
"There are families with young children also struggling to pay the bills and in some cases, they are unable to cover the huge price increases in heating oil and so cannot warm their homes," BoilerJuice said.
Over one and half million homes have no access to the mains gas network and have been penalised by paying an extra £430 on top of their fuel bills over the last year, the website told the Observer.
Mr Darling did offer some hope to pensioners by bringing in measures to increase winter fuel payments, but this was merely described as a "drop in the ocean" by BoilerJuice.
The website is calling upon the nation to sign its petition to cut oil tax, as it will make a "genuine difference".
