Energy survey 'can be a good investment'

27 November 2007

An independent energy survey can be a good investment as well as helping homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint, it was claimed today.

The government recently announced that the home information pack (Hip) scheme is to be extended to all properties going on sale from December 14th.

As well as providing information such as searches in the Hip, the vendor must supply an energy performance certificate (EPC), which gives the property an energy efficiency rating and a list of recommendations about how this can be improved.

Tony Bright of Hip directory Hipcentral believes many homeowners could benefit from having an energy survey carried out, even if they are not planning to move in the near future.

The survey would cost between £100 and £150, but homeowners could recoup that money in reduced fuel bills if they made the recommended improvements to their home, he explained.

Mr Bright added: "These improvements will improve the energy rating of your home which will be reflected in the property's energy performance certificate and is likely to improve both the saleability and the asking price."
