Double glazing could really cut your fuel bills

Most property owners are aware of the importance of insulation in keeping homes warm, but many may be unaware just how much double glazing can cut from fuel bills.

Phil Turley, business manager for Kommerling UK, said he always finds the change remarkable when people swap from single glazing.

"We take pictures of houses [with single and double glazing] using thermal imaging and you can see the difference," he remarked.

Two of the options available at the moment are gas-filled double glazing and warm-edge glazing, both of which should really limit the amount of heat escaping through windows and therefore reduce the amount that needs to be spent on home heating oil.

However, Mr Turley said homeowners could see triple glazing rise to become the next big thing in years to come.

Replacing the seals on older windows could be an option for people unable to invest in new double glazing at present, as Euroseal's Paul James recently said this small measure can really improve efficiency.
