Packing in as much insulation as possible 'will really help with efficiency'

Insulation has once again been underlined as one of the most important measures homeowners can implement to bring down the amount of money they spend on home heating oil.

Chris Newman from Parity Projects recently told the Ecologist magazine he thinks draught prevention, new boilers and a cocooning layer of padding are vital in terms of making houses warmer.

Now, Anna-Marie DeSouza from Build It + Home Improvement magazine has offered similar advice to people eager to boost their energy efficiency.

"It's all about insulating your home. Pack as much insulation into your roof as possible," she urged, recommending having a go at this and similarly simple tasks to save money on tradespeople.

The expert also suggested people with cavity walls should speak to the Energy Saving Trust about approved installers who can fit materials to stop heat escaping from walls.

"As long as you've got that sorted out you'll find your home runs a lot more efficiently," Ms DeSouza added.
