The importance of using locks on heating oil storage facilities has been highlighted by a case in Wales in which 2,000 litres of the fuel was stolen from one house.
Thieves targeted the home in Bontnewydd during the Easter school holidays and managed to get away with the huge haul, which was worth around £1,300, the Caernarfon Herald reports.
North Wales Police said two other properties in Rhosgadfan were also hit by thieves over the same period, with another 200 litres being taken there.
A statement from the Bontnewydd homeowner, who did not want to be named, urged other heating oil users to be vigilant and to install security measures around tanks.
"I'm convinced that someone had followed the oil tanker when it was delivering. I never thought anything like this would happen," she added.
Meanwhile, Easter also saw heating oil thefts in Draughton in the north of England, with £400 worth being stolen.
