Heating oil users in Scotland may be able to cut their bills by taking advantage of the government's boiler scrappage scheme, which has received a funding boost.
Cabinet secretary for infrastructure and capital investment Alex Neil has confirmed a further £500,000 has been made available for the initiative, which aims to help households update old equipment to more modern, energy efficient alternatives.
Mr Neil said the programme is a key part of the Scottish government's strategy for eradicating fuel poverty and cutting domestic carbon emissions.
"Almost 12,000 households have applied for vouchers under the scheme since June 2011 and each household could make savings of up to £300 per year on their fuel bills," he said.
The scheme operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so individuals who are thinking of replacing their old heating oil-fired boiler should contact the Home Energy Scotland Helpline as soon as possible to make an application, Mr Neil continued.
Last month, Consumer Focus warned the government's Warm Front scheme, which can also offer householders help upgrading their central heating systems, is facing a £30 million underspend this winter.
