People looking for cheap heating oil have been urged by one group to plan their purchases in advance in order to get the best deals.
The Consumer Council stated people should shop around for the best offers in their area, which may involve using a price comparison service, UTV reports.
It was also recently noted by the Daily Telegraph that people should look to take advantage of schemes such as BoilerJuice's buying weekends, which groups orders from the same postcode together, with the discounts passed on to customers.
The Consumer Council added individuals ought to consider buying in bulk if they can afford it, as the higher the quantity of heating oil they order, the cheaper the price per litre will be.
People were also encouraged to discuss the available payment options with their chosen supplier in order to ease the financial burden of a purchase.
The organisation added making home improvements such as fitting loft and wall insulation and replacing old boilers with newer models can cut down on the amount of energy an abode uses, therefore saving individuals money.
