Home heating oil users 'should consider insulation'

Individuals looking to make their use of domestic heating oil more efficient this winter have been advised by one expert to consider fitting insulation to their homes, as this can be a surprisingly simple process.

Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, stated that many people are unaware of just how cheap and convenient it can be to upgrade an abode in this manner.

"It is really about getting off your couch and getting the work done," he said, adding that people should take a "cursory look" in their lofts to determine if they will need assistance with undertaking the renovations.

Mr Leech noted that some homeowners may also be able to claim help from their local authorities to fit the improvements, which can include a grant and finding professionals to come in and assist with clearing a loft in preparation for the work.

Recently, the British Property Federation called on the government to help improve the country's energy efficiency by cutting VAT on items that are approved under the Green Deal to five per cent.
