People 'not cutting heating bill costs despite energy fears'

Cutting heating bill costs does not seem to be a top priority for homeowners, even though many fear this winter could hurt their budgets.

This is the opinion of Peter Jenkins, spokesperson for the Home Heat Helpline, who stated his organisation's research has shown individuals are failing to act on their concerns.

"The survey that we've conducted via the Home Heat Helpline shows that one in three people are worried about the winter ahead," he explained, but added the majority of these are not looking for guidance on such matters.

According to the statistics, those who are retired are the most agitated about icy weather in 2010, with 50 per cent admitting they may struggle to afford their bills should it be as cold as last year.

Mr Jenkins noted that people should seek advice on ways in which they can save money on their fuel bills, with a number of options available including benefits and cheaper insulation.
