If you have been to the Boilerjuice shop recently you will notice that we are selling an interesting new product . They may look like engineering trophies but they are in fact Ecofans.

The Ecofan is an amazing device that helps to warm up your living room more quickly. The great thing is that it actually uses the heat from your stove or wood burner to gently divert the heat into the room instead of it going up to the ceiling.

It works using the thermoelectric effect, for non techies this is a process of converting heat into electricity, so no batteries or cables are required. When the Ecofan is placed on a hot surface, such as the top of a woodburner, the metallic base will heat up and create a temperature gradient with the cooler fins at the top the Ecofan. A thermoelectric material sandwiched between the hot and cool regions generates enough electricity to power a small electric fan that diverts the upward flow of heat into the room.

The fan blades have been designed to deliver a gentle flow of warm air into the room, heating your room more quickly. It is self-regulating so it will never produce a cooling draft. The speed of the fan is determined by temperature of your woodburner, so the more heat produced, the faster the fan will turn but it will slow down if the temperature of the stove drops, then end result is a much more consistently heated room meaning you burn less fuel and save pounds!
