Are you prepared to offset your carbon footprint by planting trees?

One of the most important issues facing us at the moment is our use of energy and its impact on the environment. As home heating oil users, we are perhaps more aware of this than householders who are connected to the natural gas network.

However, what can we do to help? One idea gaining popularity is to plant trees in order to offset carbon emissions from our activities. At BoilerJuice we're always on the lookout for any initiatives to help reduce carbon footprints, and we'd like to know what you think about this idea.

  • Would you like to be able to easily reduce your carbon footprint when ordering your central heating oil?
  • Would you be prepared to pay extra for your oil in order to support this idea, and if so, how much more per litre?

Thanks for reading and please submit your comments below. We'd like to hear your views whether you support the idea or not!

Don't plant trees. You will probably end up paying for a "Trained Person" to inspect them every three years and an "Arboriculturist" every five if the BSI people have their way! http://marishalthompson.co.uk/news/times-reports-on-bsi-proposed-tree-inspection-standards/
It's time we had some clear leadership so we are all pulling in the same direction.

Every year this world burns fossil fuels that took about one million years to form. That is a massive burden on the atmosphere as there is no way that the excess carbon can be locked up again at anything like the same speed as it is released.

Planting a tree locks up a bit of carbon for as long as the tree lives, after which it is released when the trees is burnt or dies and rots. You are therefore just deferring the problem for a few years.

Carbon offsetting is just buying your way out of guilt. It is a complete racket.

If you want to avoid climate change, do whatever you can to reduce the carbon you release. Offsetting achieves little or nothing.

I think all of this "off setting" is a load of clap trap. You are either going to reduce your footprint or your not. Juts becasue you do one good deed does not mean you are allowed to drive a fule guzzling car to the shops 4 times a week!

What kind of defence is it to say "well I may have killed that man with a gun, but hey Ive had 4 kids so that "off sets" it"

It doesn't work, we are either going to do this or not!!

I did it with car insurance. Same company, identical cover (cheaper premium????) and I got to offset the carbon footprint of my car for the year.
ibuyeco, give it a try.
